Durham Community Action support organisations to secure funding, with everything from searching for funding and shaping your application, to providing advice and reading through applications.

As well as this they offer a range of fully funded online training workshops including a ‘Completing a Funding Application – Bring your Project to Life’ session which covers understanding the basics of applying for grant funding and how to link your project to a funder’s criterion.

Tips for a successful funding application

Applying for funding can be daunting, but if you’re successful the benefits the grants can bring to your digital project’s success can be immeasurable. Before applying always make sure to read all of the instructions from the funder and if unsure, contact them to find out more. Here are some top tips when completing your funding application:

  • Match your project to the funder’s priorities and criteria. Show them how your project aligns with their outcomes and how you will make this happen.
  • Outline who will benefit from the project and how success will be measured. This could be a target to hit, feedback from beneficiaries of the project or the number of people supported.
  • Know your numbers. Make sure you have costed everything correctly and that your budget is accurate, providing quotes and account details. Funders are looking for projects that are realistic.
  • Check the T&Cs. What exclusions are there to the funding, when is the deadline to apply, what documents are required, etc.
  • Complete all of the forms required and do not miss out any information. It might help to have someone read it over before you submit it.
  • Tick all the boxes. Lots of funders will scrutinise your organisation so make sure it’s properly constituted, with the right governance in place and that the organisation has a bank account under the organisation’s name.
